Gig Harbor Tennis Club - Instructional Theory:
Rick Johnson, the owner and Tennis Coach of Gig Harbor Tennis Club, has been teaching Tennis professionally for over 25 years. As a result of many years of education, personal training received from many tennis greats, and his own experience, Rick Johnson has developed the unique, effective, and easy to learn method of instruction taught at Gig Harbor Tennis Club.

Theoretically, skills development is a simple matter, but in reality mastering skills can be very difficult. The key is repetition .... it is necessary to repeat the skill pattern continually and correctly otherwise incorrect technique will result.

Once the student understands the elements of technique and has had some opportunity to practice the skill, error detection and correction become the most effective tool for the students continued improvement. As the student practices the skill over and over, Rick Johnson detects imperfections or incorrect technique and prescribes methods and drills for correcting them.

Slowly, as a result of the two principles of repetition and detection/ correction, the skill is perfected, allowing the students to improve to higher and higher levels of play.
